U.K. Health and Social Care Secretary Sajid Javid on Saturday said he had tested positive for COVID-19.
“I was feeling a little bit groggy last night so I took a lateral flow test this morning and it's come out positive,” he said in a video posted on Twitter.
Javid added he was now self-isolating at home with his family “until I get the result of a PCR test.”
The health secretary, who took up his job in June, said he had received two jabs of a coronavirus vaccine and his symptoms were “very mild.”
In the video, Javid encouraged people to get vaccinated and to have a lateral flow test when showing symptoms or having been in contact with someone who tests positive. “If everyone plays their part, you're not only protecting yourself and your loved ones, but you're also safeguarding the [National Health Service] and helping to preserve our way of life,” he said.
