Madeleine McCann suspect wary of prosecutors’ ‘dirty tricks’

The prime suspect in the disappearance of British toddler Madeleine McCann is bragging he won’t fall for any “dirty tricks” that authorities might use to get him to confess.

Christian Brueckner, a 43-year-old native of Germany, is a convicted rapist and pedophile, and German investigators believe he kidnapped the 3-year-old Madeleine in May 2007 while she and her family were vacationing in southern Portugal.

Right now, Brueckner is in prison in northern Germany, serving 21 months for drug trafficking.

Detectives may have recruited an inmate to get Brueckner to talk, The Sun reported.

“Despite the silence of prosecutors, he is convinced that the police have been using all sorts of dirty tricks to try and nail him,” a source close to the investigation told the newspaper. “He has been boasting there is no way he will fall for it. To him, the whole thing is a game of cat and mouse and he has remained silent throughout.”

Portuguese authorities are concerned that German prosecutors may be planting spies in the prison — an indication that the Germans are getting desperate over a lack of leads, The Sun reported.

“The probe into Christian B has hit a brick wall,” the source said.
