A surveillance photograph released by the NYPD Thursday shows a man who allegedly stole a hat from a Harlem street vendor’s tables and then pushed the 72-year-old, who died a short time later, to the ground, according to police.

The victim, William Welcome, was pushed during a scuffle with the thief near the intersection of West 126th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, police said.

Shortly after he was pushed, Welcome collapsed to the ground prompting witnesses to call 911, cops said.

EMS responded around 6 p.m. and found Welcome lying on the sidewalk.

They rushed him to Harlem Hospital, but he couldn’t be saved, according to authorities.

The city Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.

The thief fled and remained on the loose Tuesday night, police said. The photograph was taken from surveillance video on the scene.
