“They’re super chill,” bosun Malia White said during the preference sheet meeting on Below Deck Mediterranean when it was revealed that Roy Orbison Jr, his wife Asa, their two young boys Roy III and Bo, and a few pals would be the next charter guests. Famous last words, girl!
The preference sheet also listed “plenty of non-alcoholic beer and champagne so the non-drinkers can feel like part of the fun,” but Roy wasn’t going anywhere near those. Instead, he was imbibing all the Moscow mules, champagne, and vodka Red Bulls he could get his mouth on.
While the group used the slide and had fun on the yacht during the day, things started to change at night — and not that Roy didn’t give them a heads up. “I’m trying to be drunker,” he declared to his friends. “It’s a conscious choice, guys. I’m going ahead of you now, I’m obviously the farthest along at the moment, but I’m trying to do that. I got comfortable with the boat and the people and you guys are great.”
As dinner progressed, he also teased, “I’m probably swimming in the ocean before we go to sleep,” but this was at the stage where his friends were mostly just rolling their eyes at him. Once he ordered four different drinks right before the food came out for dinner, it wasn’t long before he was speaking gibberish, slurring his words, and being told to go to bed by his wife.
“You see how shitfaced he is?” chief stew Katie Flood asks third stew Courtney Veale, and it’s not long before she has to pretend she didn’t hear his drink order so that she is no longer serving him! “I thought, ‘They’re not big drinkers, it’s a family,’ Boy was I wrong,” the chief stew laughed in her interview.
She was soon greeted downstairs by one of the charter guests letting her know, “I think someone should clean the toilet. Yeah, he peed everywhere,” and poor Courtney is tasked with washing the bathroom. Meanwhile, Roy is at the table shouting about “Happy times!” while raising his glass and letting the liquid dribble out of his mouth. “What if I don’t embarrass myself, what if I just eat this food and go to bed?” he asks, long after that was ever going to be a realistic option for him.
When tickling his friend loses its fun, he’s then threatening to jump off the boat and mess up the crew while they’re concentrating on the nighttime docking. “I don’t like this,” Captain Sandy says, while Roy’s pal is busy holding onto him so he doesn’t go overboard (the boat, that is — it’s too late with the drinking) and his wife is shouting at him “Go to bed now!” We’ll be staying tuned to find out just how wicked that next-day hangover is for the guy.
Below Deck Mediterranean airs Monday at 9 pm ET/PT on Bravo with episodes streaming one week early on Peacock.
