AOC to Mike Pence: ‘It’s Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez to you’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did not take kindly to Vice President Pence referencing her and her famous moniker during Wednesday night’s vice presidential debate with Sen. Kamala Harris.

While discussing differences between the Biden-Harris plan for combating climate change with that of Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) Green New Deal, the vice president pointed out how Harris (D-Calif.) was an original co-sponsor of the bill when it came to the Senate floor.

“[The Biden climate plan is] essentially the same plan as you co-sponsored with AOC when [Harris] submitted it in the Senate,” he told debate moderator Susan Page.

The comment appeared to rub AOC the wrong way.

Taking to Twitter to react, the Congresswoman wrote, “For the record @Mike_Pence, it’s Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez to you.”

“AOC” has been Ocasio-Cortez’s widely-used moniker since she burst onto the political scene in 2018 with her shocking defeat of the once powerful Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY). The name is engrained with her brand, it is her username on both Instagram and Twitter.

The New York Democrat also hit the vice president for his answers — or, according to the Democratic socialist, lack thereof — during the debate.

“Why is it that Mike Pence doesn’t seem to have to answer any of the questions asked of him in this debate?” she asked in a swipe at moderator Susan Page of USA Today.

“Pence demanding that Harris answer *his* own personal questions when he won’t even answer the moderator’s is gross, and exemplary of the gender dynamics so many women have to deal with at work,” she continued in another tweet.
